Save the date! July 2-4

Islamic Art, Games/XR, & GLAM: Scotland

Hello Reader!

I'm happy to announce our first Digital Lab Days event in Scotland. It will kick off 2-3 July 2025 in Edinburgh, Scotland, with an optional 4 July field trip to Glasgow.

This event will bring together our Digital Lab community members and anyone who shares our interest in bridging academic, video games/entertainment/XR+, and cultural heritage sectors for positive social impact.

On the 2 July we'll kick things off with a day-long session in Edinburgh with exciting new student and alum research and international XR and digital cultural heritage projects. We're also planning an afternoon hands-on intro digital cultural heritage workshop.

The 3-4 July events will shine the spotlight on our local and regional Islamic collections, and the new Museums in the Metaverse initiative applying XR to international GLAM collections. These will be led by Islamic collections curators at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh, and Glasgow Life Museums, and by specialists at the ARC-XR Lab, University of Glasgow.

We aim to make Digital Lab Days 2025 a rich and rewarding learning and community experience. We want to create an energising, welcoming space for strengthening our local, regional, and international connections and for sharing exciting new projects across Islamic art, games/XR, and GLAM.

Click below for our Events page, and look out for registration info there, which is coming soon.

On behalf of the planning committee, we hope to see you in July!
