On Wednesday 7 May 2025 at 17:00, Glaire Anderson will speak at The Bristol Digital Games Lab, on “Lessons from ‘Leaving Arabistan’: New Possibilities for Academic & Games Industry Collaborations”. The Bristol Digital Game Lab at the University of Bristol is a leader in the study and development of games for public good. Sited at the intersection of academia and the games industry, the Lab acts as a catalyst for thinking about and with games in the creative city of Bristol, exploring complex societal challenges and shared cultural heritage. Glaire is Senior Lecturer in Islamic Art at the The University of Edinburgh and our founding director. She will be speaking about her work bridging the video games, GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums), and academic sectors. She was an external historian and art historian on Ubisoft's Assassin’s Creed Mirage and its ‘History of Baghdad’ educational Codex feature (Ubisoft Bordeaux, 2023). She will discuss how her recent experiences as an industry consultant and collaborator, as a speaker at #GDC2024, and as an academic game developer and intrapreneur is engaging with ongoing debates about historical and cultural representations in games, and the positive social impact of games. The seminar will be held in person in B.H05 Lecture Theatre, Arts Complex, Woodland Road, University of Bristol. Tickets available here |
